TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK) & KINDERGARTEN (K)

We also believe it is essential to develop our students as people, scholars, and citizens of the world. The foundation for this growth begins in our excellent Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms where your child will find teachers who care about their needs and provide an open and positive environment.
KINDERGARTEN (K)
Kindergarten is for children who turn five years old on or before September 1 in the school year they will be attending. We offer 17 elementary school sites, all with Kindergarten programs. For a full list of elementary school sites visit our schools website.
New students who live within the VUSD district boundary area, may enroll using our online pre-online enrollment application.
If your child is currently attending a VUSD school (i.e., TK) and they will be attending a VUSD school next year, there is no need to complete the pre-online enrollment application. You will only need to complete the annual update that will be provided at the start of the Fall of each school year.
If you are a current VUSD family but would like to transfer your child to a different school, please complete the Intradistrict request and submit to your boundary elementary school for processing.
If you live outside of the VUSD district boundary, you must first you must first apply for an Interdistrict transfer request from your district boundary. Once your request is complete, submit it to your district boundary to ensure they process your release request.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a bridge between preschool and Kindergarten that gives young learners a head start and provides them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social-emotional needs.
TK Enrollment Process
Children will be eligible for TK if they turn 5 years old between Sept. 2, 2024 - June 2, 2025.
1. Online Pre-Enrollment Application
a. You will need an email address
b. You will need to create a password
c. Do not upload student documentation. All documents are to be taken to the school site in order to finalize the student's enrollment.
2. Once you complete the online pre-enrollment, you will then need to complete the enrollment at the TK site. Enrollment at a school is not based on a family's residential boundary since the TK program is not offered at all VUSD elementary sites. Enrollment for Kindergarten will revert back to the boundary school. Families wishing their child continue at the current site as the TK placement must re-apply through Schools of Choice or Intradistrict Transfer as space allows. Families are responsible for transportation of the child to and from the school. The child’s enrollment at the requested site will not be official until the Pre-Online Enrollment is completed.
