TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK) & KINDERGARTEN (K)
We prepare our students for a future in the world today, where our students grow to be critical thinkers, creative, and adaptable. We also believe it is essential to develop our students as people, scholars, and citizens of the world. The foundation for this growth begins in our excellent Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms where your child will find teachers who care about their needs and provide an open and positive environment.
KINDERGARTEN (K)
Kindergarten is for children who turn five years old on or before September 1 in the school year they will be attending. We offer 17 elementary school sites, all with Kindergarten programs. For a full list of elementary school sites visit our schools website.
New students who live within the VUSD district boundary area, may enroll using our online pre-online enrollment application.
If your child is currently attending a VUSD school (i.e., TK) and they will be attending a VUSD school next year, there is no need to complete the pre-online enrollment application. You will only need to complete the Parent Data Confirmation that will be provided at the start of the Fall of each school year.
If you are a current VUSD family but would like to transfer your child to a different school, please complete the Intradistrict request and submit to your boundary elementary school for processing.
If you live outside of the VUSD district boundary, you must first you must first apply for an Interdistrict transfer request from your district boundary.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a bridge between preschool and Kindergarten that gives young learners a head start and provides them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social-emotional needs. Beginning the 2026-27 school year, Transitional Kindergarten will be boundary based, except for Pierpont ES. If your are interested in a non-boundary TK site we encourage families to apply via the SOC lottery process, with the exception of Pierpont ES as they do not offer this program.
TK Enrollment Process
2026-27 School Year: Children will be eligible for TK if they turn 4 years old by September 1, 2026.

2. For the 2026-27 school year, please contact your boundary elementary school for placement. The TK program is not offered at all VUSD elementary sites (Pierpont ES).

Please note Transitional Kindergarten enrollment will be boundary based beginning the 2026-27 school year, except for Pierpont and they will not offer this program. This means you can enroll at your boundary school without using the SOC process or apply through SOC to attend a non-boundary school. Pierpont boundary TK families must apply through the SOC lottery as Pierpont does not offer a TK program.
Please note, the 2025-26 SOC TK placement for students expires at the end of the 2025-26 school year. Starting with the TK students who enroll through SOC for the 2026-27 school year, reapplication will only be required at the end of 5th grade.
