New Student Enrollment

TK will be offered at the following sites for the 2025-2026 school year:

For those that need to enroll their child into one of our TK schools, please visit our TK/K webpage for more information.  

 Enrollment for Kindergarten will revert back to the boundary school.  Families wishing their child continue at the current site as the TK placement must re-apply through Schools of hoice or Intradistrict Transfer as space allows.  Familes are responsible for transportation of the child to and from the school.  The child's enrollment at the requested site will not be official until the pre-online enrollment is completed. 

Homestead is designed for families seeking an alternative setting and greater flexibility in their child's education. It is a free, family-led independent study program through Ventura Unified School District. Enrollment is open to students in Grades K-8 in Ventura County and neighboring counties. Families work with a credentialed teacher to deliver an individualized program for their child.  There are various vehicles for the delivery of education, including online resources, pen and paper and a blend of both. The program is located at 150 Day Rd. in Ventura and includes opportunities for in-person engagement for students and teachers (during non-COVID times).

New students who live within the VUSD district boundary area, may enroll using our online pre-enrollment application.

If your student is currently attending a VUSD school and they will be attending any VUSD school next year, there is no need to complete the pre-online enrollment application. You will only need to complete the annual update that will be open in August before school begins.

If you are a current VUSD family but would like to transfer your child to a different school please complete the Intradistrict Transfer request and submit for review and approval. 

If you live within a different district's boundary you must first contact your current district to be released, and then you may apply for an Interdistrict transfer.  Once the request is complete, submit it to your district boundary to ensure they process your release request.

The Ventura Unified School District is pleased to offer three TK-8 Schools. 

• ATLAS School (TK-8), located on the east end of Ventura
•  Lemon Grove School (TK-8), located in mid-town 
•  Sunset School (TK-8) located in Oak View

Here are the various ways to enroll for TK-5:

• If you are a current VUSD family, you must contact your current boundary school to request an intradistrict transfer application so you may be released from your current boundary school.
• If you are new to VUSD or a returning “inactive” student AND you live in the school boundary area for Sunset or Lemon Grove, you may apply to both using our online enrollment application. Families should contact the school directly after applying online to ensure the school site received their online enrollment information.
• If you are new to VUSD or a returning “inactive” student AND you live outside the boundary for Sunset or Lemon Grove (whichever you are choosing) but still within the VUSD boundary area for the District, you must contact your current boundary school to request an intradistrict transfer application so you may be released from your current boundary school.
• If you live outside of the VUSD district boundary area, you must first contact your current district to be released, and then you may apply for an interdistrict transfer.  Once the paperwork is complete, we recommend contacting the school to ensure they have received your information.

To pre-enroll for the 6-8 grades at a TK-8

ATLAS, Lemon Grove, and Sunset, are not considered to be boundary schools for middle schools. Middle school students are eligible for enrollment at a TK-8 school by School of Choice or Intradistrict transfer only. 

Current Students

New and returning inactive students who live within the VUSD district boundary area, may apply using our online pre-enrollment application.

If your student is currently attending a VUSD school and they will be attending any VUSD school next year, you will only need to complete the annual update that will be open in August before school begins. This year, this will be an online process and we will be sending out the links and directions near the start of school.

If you are a current VUSD family but would like to transfer your child to a non-boundary school please complete the Intradistrict Transfer paperwork and submit for review and approval. 

If you live outside the VUSD boundary you must first contact your current boundary district to be released, and then you may apply for an interdistrict transfer.  Once the paperwork is complete, please contact Student Support Services at (805) 641-5000 ext.1370, for the next step.

*** El Camino and Pacific High Schools have a separate process by which you need to apply. Please contact the front office of either El Camino or Pacific for more information. 

The Independent Study High School Program in Ventura Unified School District is El Camino High School. Please reach out to them at 805-289-7955 or check their website to get more information. Your counselor is a good resource and will help you with placement to independent studies.
