Anime club members gather every Wednesday at lunch to watch Japanese Anime movies. We also draw and share some of our own anime pictures.
Audio/Visual Recording Club

The Audio/Visual Club offers students a chance to record music or make videos. Students may come to room 50 on Tuesdays or Thursdays at lunch or before school and use Balboa’s digital cameras, computers, and recording equipment to create your own multimedia works of art. Some students record their voices and sounds from their instruments using the recording studio or they make music using Mix Craft, a music program on the computers. There is also a program called Windows Movie Maker that allows students to make slide shows using titles and music for an amazing product.

This is a club for socializing and friendship. We promote a safe and respectful environment where members may talk about and learn strategies to overcome some of the most pressing social issues faced by today’s Middle School students. Our meetings include discussions, role playing, and activities. Everyone is welcome.

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program and fun competition open to all students. Students read from a list of 20 books and attend fun book talks on Tuesdays at lunch in the Library from September to February. The 2019 Battle competition will take place at Cabrillo Middle School at the end of February. Qualifying students from the four middle schools will be placed on randomly selected teams of four to five. All students will receive a Battle t-shirt, lunch, have the opportunity to hear a guest author, and win prizes. The competition is a round robin tournament with questions from all the books. The two top-scoring teams will be in the Final Round. The names of the winning team will be engraved on a perpetual trophy. Winning team members and lucky raffle winners receive gift certificates to local bookstores and medals or ribbons.
Chess and Game Club

The Chess and Game Club meets every Wednesday in Room 47 to play games and hang out. Everyone is welcome and it’s the perfect place to learn a new game or make a new friend.

Drama club offers middle school students an opportunity to experience all aspects of theater production. Each spring members participate in a Broadway production. We meet every Wednesday at lunch in room 80.

The purpose of the club is to build friendships through fellowship and together praying for our students, staff, and Balboa community. Guest speakers from various churches throughout Ventura County come to discuss issues that middle school students face in their daily lives while focusing on biblical perspectives. The club meets every Thursday at lunch in Room 33 and the meetings are student-led. Everyone is welcome.
Open Lab for Industrial Arts Classes

Open lab provides an opportunity for students enrolled in any of the industrial arts classes to work on their projects and take safety tests. Lab times are scheduled before school.
