Live Video Conferencing Survey
This message is being sent on behalf of your Principal. We hope this message finds you well and that this first day of our new regular schedule proved to be a smooth one.
We have made incredible strides throughout the District to ensure that our Fall 2020 semester looks and feels much different from the Spring. We heard from our families about how important it was for you to have a more engaging system and to have live online teaching sessions. We worked hard over the summer to provide that for our students. We are reaching out tonight as the state has mandated new attendance guidelines.
During this pandemic, we encourage our students to attend as many live online teaching classes as possible. We understand some of our families are concerned about the amount of screen time our children are getting. However, we do not feel there is a stronger substitute than learning through engagement, asking questions, and solving problems with a teacher and peers. For now, that learning must occur online. In our District, we also realize that a one size fits all approach does not work for everyone, which is why we also have provided asynchronous work that our students can do on their own when attending live online teaching is not possible for a family.
To ensure we do not bombard families with attendance notifications, we need each family to fill out the following attendance survey if they do not plan on consistently attend live online teaching, https://forms.gle/m3QaNDj61dFYijnK9. If this is the case and you fill out the survey, then we will put you on a list that will disable your attendance calls. If students miss online live teaching and are on this do not call list, they will be marked absent and have up to 10 days to make up the work in Canvas/SeeSaw to erase the absence, or a call must be made to the school’s attendance office to clear the absence for another valid reason (illness, doctor’s appt., etc.).
If you do not fill out the survey you will receive notifications when your child has missed one or more classes each day. They, too, will be able to make up the work on their own, or a parent/guardian can submit an excuse through the attendance message in ParentSquare or a call to the attendance office.
The deadline to submit this survey is Thurs., Sept. 3, at 4 pm. Schools will reach out to those families who indicate they will not attend live online teaching to confirm and add you to the list. We plan to start attendance calls on Tues. Sept. 8. However, it will take up to five business days to add students to the do not call list, and calls may be sent to a family in the interim; we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Opening of Fall 2020
As VUSD and Anacapa Middle School continue to receive and digest guidelines from the CDC, Governor, California Department of Education, Ventura County Public Health and Ventura County Superintendents, we will act in a proactive way planning for various scenarios that could be put into place depending on the guidance we receive around areas like cleaning, social distancing, masks, etc. As we prepare documents to provide as much transparency as possible, we will provide on the district’s VUSD Family School Closure Information Page. Please click here to visit: https://www.venturausd.org/SchoolClosures.aspx
Our commitment is to keep families connected and informed. We look forward to working with you in the fall.
