Dear Anacapa Middle School Community,
On behalf of our entire staff, we would like to welcome our new sixth grade students, and our returning seventh and eighth-grade students! Let me begin by introducing myself, my name is Mrs. Vega-Manriquez and I will be your new principal. I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year and I am looking forward to being part of the Anacapa Islander family. I have been part of the Ventura USD community for the last 10 years and have been in administration for the past 5 years. I am very excited to work together to make this a fabulous new school year!
For those of you new to Anacapa like me, please know that your child is attending a great school community that is committed to providing a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential. And to our returning families, thank you for your dedication and commitment to making Anacapa a place where we can all succeed and make a difference.
Middle school is an exciting time in your student’s life where they are meeting new friends, growing socio-emotionally, and developing their academic foundation. These transitional years can present a variety of challenges, yet many great rewards. We look forward to developing a strong partnership with you to provide our students with a rich transition that will challenge them academically and help them develop a personal connection to the school and community. I encourage you to be involved by participating in one of our parent groups: Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), School Site Council (SSC), or the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).
The Anacapa staff is committed to a set of expectations to support our students. The first set is the Guidelines for Success. These guidelines will be part of the daily goal for our Islander school community. Secondly, our school community will use CHAMPs a classroom management system to develop an instructional structure in which students are responsible, motivated, and highly engaged in their academic experience.
I am confident that we will collaborate to model these expectations to help us continue to move Anacapa Middle School and our students through a rich middle school experience and towards a future that values responsible members of our culturally diverse society. In order to make this possible, we must stay connected. We strive to maintain open lines of communication via a quarterly newsletter, teacher and school websites, e-mail, Edulink calls, school marquis, and our school agenda. We invite you to visit our school website to sign-up to get access to the Remind text messaging service.
I vow to give my all to our students’ experience, and I will request the same efforts from our staff and school community. We look forward to an exciting and successful 2018-2019 school year. Go Islanders!
Principal Mayra Vega-Manriquez, Ed.D.
