VUSD Employee School Closure Information 2020

Need Assistance?

VUSD Employee Closure Information

This page is for our VUSD employees to obtain the latest access to the most up to date information during this pandemic.  We want to begin by thanking all of our dedicated VUSD employees who have assisted in keeping our students as healthy as possible over the last few weeks. We also want to thank all of those employees who will be called upon in the next few months to assist in ensuring we continue to monitor the virus, reevaluate our situation and work on various projects/programs during the closure.

School Closure Dates Information

School Closure Information

In the interest of the health of our community, the Ventura Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent have decided to close all VUSD schools beginning Monday, March 16 through Thursday, June 11, 2020.

This closure includes:

  • all VUSD TK-12 schools
  • VUSD preschool programs
  • VUSD supported after-school programs
  • and Ventura Adult and Continuing Education (VACE).

All Ventura County School Districts, including VUSD, agreed  to keep campuses closed through the end of the school year in support of the coronavirus mitigation effort. The decision was made in consultation with Ventura County Public Health Officer, Dr. Robert Levin. It comes after recommendations from California Governor Gavin Newsom and California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond for schools to continue providing distance learning in lieu of in-class instruction for the remainder of the current semester. To be clear, the 2019/20 school year is not over. It has transitioned from in-person classroom instruction to distance learning for the rest of this academic year.

Food & Nutrition

Food and Nutrition

We will be distributing on Mondays from 11: 30 am- 1 pm at the six sites listed below.

We have seen a significant increase in the needs for meals and are making adjustments to our orders to fill these needs. However, due to the rise in the number of meals that some families have requested, we do need to limit the number of meals one family can pick up. That limit will be five meal packs (breakfast and lunch) for children ages 1-18. We ask that each family only take what they need for the children in their household. We do realize this may impact some that are picking up for neighbors, etc. however, this is the only way we can do our best to provide for all children in need and not require students be in attendance to pick up.

Meals are staple items for both breakfast and lunch and are first come, first serve.  Please follow these food safety guidelines found on our website.

Keep refrigerated items refrigerated.  Example: milk, string cheese. Keep frozen items either refrigerated or frozen until heating for consumption.  Example: burrito, corn dog. Heat items fully for consumption.. Rinse fresh fruit or produce items before consumption.. Discard any items that have reached an expiration date.Discard any leftovers by end of day Friday.Meals items are subject to change due to availability of products.

We will continue to evaluate our program and notify you of any changes we need to make to the policy as we move forward.

VUSD Retirement Incentive Program

The Ventura Unified School District, VUEA and VESPA agreed on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the district to provide a one-time, non-precedent setting retirement incentive program for all employees who will be age 63 or over by December 31, 2020 and who have a minimum of 10 years of service with the district (full-time or part-time service, and years do not have to be continuous.)  This program is being offered to assist these employees in purchasing their own medical insurance in exchange for their irrevocable retirement.  Those who already submitted their retirement through the 2019-2020 Early Tell offer are also eligible to apply for this program, as long as they have not yet separated from district service.
