VUSD Employee School Closure Information 2020

Need Assistance?

VUSD Employee Closure Information

This page is for our VUSD employees to obtain the latest access to the most up to date information during this pandemic.  We want to begin by thanking all of our dedicated VUSD employees who have assisted in keeping our students as healthy as possible over the last few weeks. We also want to thank all of those employees who will be called upon in the next month to assist in ensuring we continue to monitor the virus, reevaluate our situation and work on various projects/programs during the closure.

School Closure Dates Information

School Closure Information

In the interest of the health of our community, the Ventura Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent have decided to close all VUSD schools beginning Monday, March 16 through Monday, May 4, 2020.

This closure includes:

  • all VUSD TK-12 schools
  • VUSD preschool programs
  • VUSD supported after-school programs
  • and Ventura Adult and Continuing Education (VACE).

This closure is in support of the recommendations from public health officials to encourage “social distancing” to slow the spread of the virus. It is strongly recommended that students stay home during the closure as much as possible and do not gather in public places. We hope to reopen on Monday, May 4th, but that decision will depend on the circumstances at the time. We will reevaluate this plan and provide updates to our families as soon as we get them.

Food & Nutrition

Food and Nutrition

Our Food & Nutrition Services team will be providing meals for families to pick-up, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm beginning this Monday, March 16. Parents or students may walk or drive up to the carts that we will have set up and receive one breakfast (for the next day) and one lunch per child ages 1-18 years of age. All children are welcome; they do not have to be VUSD students, no ID or information is needed. All meals must be taken off the property to be eaten, as we are trying to maintain social distancing. These sites were selected strategically, so the District provides meals in areas of high need throughout the city and where walking to the location is an option. We will evaluate the program daily and adjust if needed. The six sites are:

1. Atlas Elementary School 760 Jazmin Avenue, Ventura

2. Montalvo Elementary 2050 Grand Avenue, Ventura

3. Will Rogers Elementary 316 Howard Street, Ventura

4. Data Middle School 2060 Cameron Street, Ventura

5. Sheridan Way Elementary 573 Sheridan Way, Ventura

6. Sunset K-8 School 400 Sunset Ave., Oak View

Field Trips, Athletics, Etc.

Beginning Monday, March 16, we are canceling all school district-sponsored events and travel including, field trips, visual and performing arts events, PTA/PTO sponsored events, dances, employee work travel and all athletic events, including practices through May 4, 2020.  We are canceling all non-VUSD events and activities scheduled to occur on any VUSD property through May 4, 2020.
