Online Learning Device Deployment

Devices for Students Who Do Not Have Them At Home

VUSD Loaner Device Agreement- Click here to download

We are transitioning from the classroom to online instruction through May 4, 2020. As VUSD has been gearing up for Distance Learning, we know that access to an appropriate device is critical. All VUSD schools are in the process of getting devices to those in need. Due to the new Stay at Home orders and need for social distancing we have cancelled our large distributions that were announced Thursday night 3/19/20. We will communicate these plans soon, but likely not until next week. Thank you for your patience.

We know families have many questions about how distance learning will look and impacts to family life. We will have schedules and routines for you as soon as possible. Our program will be designed with the needs of busy families in mind. We will have a soft launch and slow rollout so that we can all learn and get adjusted together.

If your VUSD issued Chromebook gives you the warning that you do not have permission from the administrator to add the WiFi, please follow these steps to resolve. We apologize as some of the Chromebooks were not configured properly.

  1. Families should go to the parking lot at the nearest VUSD school closest to the main building
  2. Next,  look for the VUSDM wireless network.
  3. Upon connection, the parents/students need to log into the student’s Google account.
  4. Stay connected for 2 minutes after logging into Google.
  5. The management policy will be downloaded during this 2 minute time period.
  6. The family should peruse their Google drive to confirm their files.
  7. After 2 minutes, the family can go home and connect to their network.

Distance Learning

Elementary School Student Distance Learning

There will be expectations for completion, however students will work at their own pace and on their own schedule. This allows families the flexibility they need. Adult assistance is needed for distance learning. That need will vary for each student: some students may be independent learners and others will need more support.  We know that many families have multiple children to assist and other responsibilities. Our program will be designed with that need in mind.

Please know more information will come. Our soft roll out is tentatively scheduled for the week after spring break with devices deployed before spring break.  For the time being, we are working diligently to keep you informed.

School Closure Information

In the interest of the health of our community, the Ventura Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent have decided to close all VUSD schools beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, May 1, 2020.

This closure includes:

  • all VUSD TK-12 schools
  • VUSD preschool programs
  • VUSD supported after-school programs
  • and Ventura Adult and Continuing Education (VACE).

Field Trips/Athletics/Travel, etc.

Beginning Monday, March 16, we are canceling all school district-sponsored events and travel including, field trips, visual and performing arts events, PTA/PTO sponsored events, dances, employee work travel and all athletic events, including practices until further notice.  We are canceling all non-VUSD events and activities scheduled to occur on any VUSD property through May 1,  2020.

Food and Nutrition

Our Food & Nutrition Services team will be providing meals for families to pick-up, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm beginning this Monday, March 16. Parents or students may walk or drive up to the carts that we will have set up and receive one breakfast (for the next day) and one lunch per child ages 1-18 years of age. All children are welcome; they do not have to be VUSD students, no ID or information is needed, and the children do not need to be present; all Ventura families are welcome. All meals must be taken off the property to be eaten, as we are trying to maintain social distancing. These sites were selected strategically, so the District provides meals in areas of high need throughout the city and where walking to the location is an option. We will evaluate the program daily and adjust if needed. The six sites are:

1. Atlas Elementary School 760 Jazmin Avenue, Ventura

2. Montalvo Elementary 2050 Grand Avenue, Ventura
