Students with Special Needs

Federal and state laws require schools to serve students with disabilities in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). This means, students with disabilities, to the maximum extent appropriate, are to be educated with their peers who are not disabled. This principle also applies to transportation services. As a student's needs dictate, accommodations in services can be made from the least restrictive environment, ie., walking to a centralized stop, to the most restrictive environment, such as a specialized bus. Transportation as a related service will be authorized by the IEP team.
