Field Trips

Buses are available for approved trips during school hours when they are not needed for home-to-school pupil transportation. The District also has three vans and four sedans that can be used for field trips. Reservations must be made in sufficient time to be approved by the administrative offices and to be confirmed by a transportation administrator (two weeks preferred.)

The Transportation Services Department must arrange all school bus and charter transportation:

All requests for pupil transportation should be made within the limitations established by Board policy 6153: "All trips involving air travel, out-of-state, out-of-the-tri-county area (Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles) or overnight travel shall require prior approval of the Board."

Charter buses may be used under any of the following conditions:
Adult trips in which their are no school pupils being transported for a school activity.
For trips where the final destination of the trip is outside of Ventura, Los Angles, Orange, Santa Barbara or Kern Counties.
When it is the determination of the Director of Transportation that buses are not capable of handling the equipment and baggage needs of the group requesting transportation services. He/she may authorize the use of buses from a charter service. It is understood that this is to be a rare exception to the rule and it is the intent of the District to utilize District buses to the greatest extent possible.


To reserve a school bus, district van, district sedan or charter a bus for a field trip follow the procedures below:
Obtain a Transportation Request from your school office. (A supply of forms can be requested from the department at 805-641-5000 ext. 1324)
Submit to school administrator for approval.
Submit to Educational Services Division for approval.

Transportation Services will then process your request and send a Trip Confirmation Sheet.
