The History of Saticoy School
1870 - Indians gathered annually at the "Bubbling Springs" from as far away as Tulare, San Luis Obispo and San Diego. The Indian chieftress, Pomposa, made a feast for them. She baked a cake for each one participating in the feast. The bubbling springs are marked by a historical landmark near the intersection of Telephone and Wells Road.
1900 - Birth of Saticoy School
1912 - The "Bubbling Springs" that Saticoy School was named after were no longer active. The Chimash Indians traveled several miles to reach this source of water and sacred grounds.
1920 - Original building replaced by a white structure with pillars and of Spanish architecture (5 teachers and a principal).
1939 - Major portion of the present building constructed by a WPA project.
1940 - Saticoy School that was, originally only for Anglo students was combined with the Spanish speaking students and Agua Mantial School near the present downtown Saticoy area.
1960 - Max F. Rafferty had his office as Superintendent of Saticoy School District (comprised of 2 schools--Saticoy and one at Cabrillo Village). Mr. Rafferty later became the California State Superintendent of Schools.
1967 - Saticoy School District unified with Ventura Unifed School District.
1971 - Boundaries were re-drawn to accomplish racial balance.
