HEAL VUSD is a 3 year, federal grant project designed to meet the following goals:
SERVING
The target schools in Ventura Unified School District are:
All students in grades 4th - 8th at the target schools will participate in the project. In addition, all after school programs offered for students' at these sites, including YMCA, City of Ventura/ASES, and the Boys & Girls Clubs will be served and will participate in the project.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
The following community agencies will be participiating in the project:
Body Mass Index (BMI)
Students at the HEAL VUSD project schools will have their BMI calculated 4 times over the couse of the 3 year project. (baseline fall 2012 and then every spring) All information is collected in a confidential setting and remains confidential. Parents may opt out of this project component by writing to their school principal.
PEDOMETERS, ACTIVITY LOGS, PACER & NUTRITION SURVEYS
Students at HEAL VUSD project schools will complete a 4-7 day pedometer & activity log, PACER/aerobic test, and nutrition survey at regular intervals throughout the school year. These assessments are designed to increase students' physial activity and consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well to regularly monitor student improvement in aerobic capacity.
