Hello Poinsettia Lions!
We have arrived at the 2017-2018 school year. I am so glad to have you all as part of the lion pride, from our newest kiddos in kinder to parents who are themselves alumni of Poinsettia. Poinsettia represents the best in education and I look forward to all the fantastic things we have in store for this school year.
Thank you in advance for your support of your child's education. In the first few weeks of school, I am asking for your help in establishing positive routines. Successful learning at school begins at home as students get a good night’s sleep, families read together, and breakfast is early enough to ensure plenty of time for a peaceful arrival to school. Our parking lot is crowded with all of the families who are eager to be a part of our amazing school! If the mass of cars has you feeling road rage, be sure to use the bus if it comes to your neighborhood, try dropping your student at the cafeteria as early as 7:30, or if you live nearby consider creating a “walking pool.” Be sure to keep kids safe by using crosswalks and never dropping students off on Victoria. It’s just not safe. Thanks again for modeling respect on and around campus.
Summertime brought us some staffing changes and many room changes. Ms. Marks has moved to a position at Balboa and we wish her well. Mrs. Gallo will be teaching third grade in room 14. In room 21, Mrs. Jade Torres will be teaching the 4/5 combo. Mrs. Torres comes to us most recently from Juanamaria, but she is a veteran teacher who specialized in leading teachers in language arts for the district office and was part of creating Montalvo Art Academy magnet school. I am so honored she chose Poinsettia as her teaching home. All of 5th grade is now on the lowest part of campus in portables 21, 22, and 23. This 5th grade “bungalow” will be perfect for all of the collaboration that happens at that grade. We are also welcoming Ms. Steltz who will be teaching our upper grade special day class (SDC). Ms. Steltz comes to us from Mound where she taught last year. Ms. Skeath will be teaching grade K/1 SDC. She is a new teacher who has an extensive background in work with students with Autism. As always, this year’s Poinsettia staff is top notch!
This year we have booked exciting assemblies, field trips, and more for your children. 2017-2018 will mark the return of Art Night which will take place in February and stay tuned to hear about our family picnic date in September. From students in grades 3-5, we will be having student council elections this year beginning just after jog-a-thon. I look forward to seeing students each Friday in their red t-shirts to show their spirit. You all make up the roaring lion pride!
The Poinsettia Parent Teacher Organization is already hard at work planning this year’s Poinsettia Ninja Warrior jog-a-thon. Learn more and sign up to help Tuesday, August 22 at 4:00 at this year’s popsicle party. All kids at the popsicle party must be accompanied by an adult! Class lists will be posted on the cafeteria windows at 4:30 during the social. I look forward to seeing you all.
