Admission Requirements
1—Attend an Open Classroom K-8 Information Meeting Information meetings are held both in the morning and in the evening, please see below for dates.
2—Attend a Tour of Open Classroom K-8 Tours are held during school hours in mornings, please see below for dates and times.
Prospective Parent Introductory Meeting & Tour Spring 2010 Dates:
Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 8:30 to 11am (combined Meeting & Tour)
Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 6:30 - 8:00pm (Evening Meeting)
Tuesday, February 9, 2010, 8:30 to 11am (combined Meeting & Tour)
Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 6:30 – 8:00pm (Evening Meeting)
Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 8:30 to 11am (combined Meeting & Tour)
Please note: Information meetings and tours are designed to allow parents to learn about and observe Open Classroom K-8 in action. Please make arrangements to attend without your child (or children) in order to minimize the distractions for all parents.
3—Submit an Open Classroom K-8 Application Applications are available at the end of each tour. If you need an additional copy, please contact (805) 289-1818 ex 2220 and leave your name and mailing address, or email your request to Open Classroom Admissions at: admissions@theopenclassroom.org
4—Complete a School of Choice Application for the VUSD School of Choice Lottery You must submit a Schools of Choice [SOC] Lottery application to Ventura Unified School District.* SOC Lottery applications are available at the VUSD Education Service Center, and on-line at the VUSD website, during the SOC Lottery application window each year.

The Schools of Choice Lottery application window for the 2010-2011 school year has closed.
5—Attend a Visitation with Your Child/ren Once the VUSD Schools of Choice Lottery is complete (usually late February), a list of applicants will be forwarded to Open Classroom Admissions. Applicants will then be contacted to set up a classroom visitation with their child (or children).
*Out-of-District Applicants
The Schools of Choice Lottery Application does not apply to applicants who reside outside VUSD Boundaries. Applicants who live outside the Ventura Unified School District may apply, but will require an Inter-District Transfer in order to enroll. For more information on Inter-District Transfers please visit: http://www.venturausd.org/childwelfare/districttransfers.htm Applicants residing outside the VUSD must complete all regular admission requirements—excluding the SOC application—in addition to obtaining an Inter-District Transfer, to be eligible for enrollment.
Wait List Students who missed the Schools of Choice Lottery Window and live within the VUSD Boundaries may request to be put on a waiting list for their prospective grade level. Wait Listed Students are admitted on a space available basis following the enrollment of School Of Choice accepted students, and Schools of Choice wait list students. Requests to be added to the 2010-2011 Wait List may be directed to Open Classroom Admissions at (805) 289-01817 ex 2220 or Admissions@theopenclassroom.org Please include your first and last name, your child's first and last name, your child's grade, and your contact information in any messages.
