California Healthy Kids Survey

Results 2016

Ventura Unified School District students in grades 5, 7, 9, and 11 and all students in alternative education settings in grades 6-12 had the opportunity to participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey as part of the alcohol, tobacco, other drug, and violence prevention education program.  This is a very important survey that helps promote school connectedness, improve the school learning environment, and combat barriers to learning such as substance abuse, school bullying, and harassment. Parents or guardians who preferred that their child(ren) not participate in the survey were required to notify the school in writing prior to the survey.

Survey Content.  The survey gathers information on developmental supports provided to youth; school connectedness and barriers to learning; school safety; health-related behaviors such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; and risk of depression. There were no questions about family values.
