Twenty-first century technology provides students with the tools they'll need to be competitive as they enter a global workforce. This includes acquiring basic computer skills and expertise in applications, as well as attaining information literacy, and practicing Internet safety and electronic collaboration.
To achieve those goals, sixth grade students entering De Anza Academy of Technology and the Arts in the 2010-11 school year will experience a 1:1 computer ratio in their classes, giving them an opportunity to utilize technology in every aspect of their daily learning. Computer skills and applications will be infused into the curriculum through everyday lessons and in-depth projects. The DATA campus will have wireless Internet connection, allowing students to utilize portable computers from anywhere on campus, before, during and after school.
All incoming sixth graders will be part of DATA's Boot-up Camp, which will train students in appropriate care and use of computers and will also offer opportunities for family members to learn how to best assist and guide their students.
