Tardy Policy
Tardy policy 2009-10
Three years ago we implemented a tardy policy. We saw a dramatic improvement in students arriving to school on time. When a child is tardy, it creates a problem. The child misses important beginning of the day instructions and this interrupts the teacher from the lesson as she/he has to address the child and get them up to speed so the class can continue. Additionally, we feel that children are embarrassed walking in late to school as it creates undo attention towards them. They often spend a lot of the day trying to catch up on their work.
If your child receives 3 tardies in a trimester, he/she will be assigned a detention. Our detention policy states that all children assigned detention will remain after school in the library from 2:35-3:15 on Thursdays, and for our kindergarten students, it is from 1:30-2:00. At 2:00 or 3:15 (depending on grade level), a parent MUST come to pick up the child and sign him/her out. We realize that many parents may have to take off from work to do this, but this is our policy. If a child continues to be late to school, a detention will be assigned for every 3 tardies that are accumulated.
We appreciate your support of this policy as we are trying to assist your child with developing good educational habits as well as a life long attitude of the importance of being on time for school, interviews, games, work and events. Please discuss this policy with your child and establish a morning routine that allows you to arrive to school on time. We would hope that you try to make any appointments outside of school hours; however, if this is not possible, please request a doctor's note to bring to school with your child so we can record this as an excused tardy.
As a reminder: Please spend the first two weeks of school familiarizing yourself with our traffic patterns as well as organizing your family's schedule so you can get your child to school on time. Our school serves breakfast for $1.50 beginning at 7:30 AM. Students may be on campus as early as 7:30 AM, playing on the playground, which is supervised. Our first bell rings at 7:55 AM which means that students should be lined up on the playground. The tardy bell rings at 8:00 AM which is when instruction begins. Therefore, all children should be in their seats by 8:00 AM or will be considered tardy. Again, thank you for your support of this policy as we are try to ensure the education of all the students at Citrus Glen Elementary.
