Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010
Senate Bill (SB) 1381 (Chapter 705, Statues of 2010) amended the California Education Code (Section 46300, 48000, and 48010) to change the required birthday for admission to kindergarten and first grade, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. In order for a child to enter Kindergarten, they must turn 5 on or before October 1st, 2013.
For those students whose birthday falls between October 2nd - December 2nd, Transitional Kindergarten is offered. Transitional Kindergarten is a bridge between Preschool and Kindergarten. It gives young learners a head start and provides them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs.

If you have submitted an application for your child to attend Transitional Kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year, letters stating your child's school site designation will be mailed within the first two weeks of May, 2013.
