LIBRARY NEWS
The Cabrillo library opened yesterday. Hours are 8:25 to 4:00 Monday through Friday (but Fridays not at lunchtime). On Early Release Fridays, we’re open from 8:25-2:30. You can check out up to two books at a time for three weeks. Fines are 10 cents a school day. Write the due dates of your library books in your planner and avoid those fines! You can come in to read, study, look at magazines or buy a pencil or pen. Due to high volume of use, our computers are for either school related work or taking Accelerated Reader tests. Come in to get a book for Silent Reading. Welcome! (Mr. Tzipori)

A Word about Textbooks and
Library Books

Recently the school district adopted a new mathematics series published by Holt. Your child will have access to the newest material tied to state standards. The books look inviting and are linked to websites for even more information. In addition, through library grants, donations and PTO help, the library has many new and wonderful books for your child to enjoy-more than 17,000 of them. Sixty-five classics are available in electronic book form.

These new textbooks are expensive. In fact, the least expensive textbook your student will receive is $61.00. Literature books are $72.00 and 8th grade social studies books are $73.00. PLEASE make clear to your child that he/she is responsible for taking care of the books while in use from August to June. Keep them away from little brothers, sisters, pets, liquids, and food in backpacks. We must charge for broken corners, mold and mildew from the rain or water bottles, any writing inside, and damage to the cover and binding. Library books are also expensive. An average library book costs $16-$24 and takes time and money to catalog and process. Save your student from the agony(!) of receiving an “obligation form” by helping him/her return books on time and in good condition.

Please remember that your child is responsible for his/her books - if he/she “LOANS” a book out to a friend, he/she is also responsible for any damage to the book or if the friend loses the book.

Thanks for your help.
