9TH GRADE HONORS ENGLISH
Honors English applications for the 2010 - 2011 school year are due Monday, February 22, 2010.  Return applications to the office.  For additional information, you are invited to attend a parent/student information night on Wednesday, February 10th, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the VUSD Education Service Center in the Multi-purpose Room on the 1st floor.

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST
Win $25 and have your design printed on hundreds of T-shirts. Design a shirt for the 2010 placeCityBattle of the Books Contest. Pick up information in the library. The deadline is Wednesday, February 10th.  (Mrs. Hofflund and Mrs. Ludes)

INTRAMURAL SOCCER
Sign-ups begin today for soccer.  Bring all completed lists down to Mr. Mahler in the Boys' PE office.  All teams must have four boys and four girls.  (Mr. Mahler)

YEARBOOK SALES

LAURENT CLERC CLUB
If you were in the yearbook photo for the Laurent Clerc Club, please come to Room 41 during lunch on Tuesday to identify yourself in the photo.  See you there.  (Ms. Hewer & Mrs. Nyholm)

ONE DOLLAR ONE CHILD HOPE FOR HAITI
In just two weeks Cabrillo has collected over $775.00 for placecountry-regionHaiti!  Our goal is to raise at least one dollar for each student and teacher at Cabrillo, so we are trying to reach a total of $1,100.  Keep
up the donations-remember the children of Haiti.  (Leadership)

HAITI EMERGENCY RELIEF: WHAT YOUR MONEY CAN BUY
Health & Nutrition:  7 cents provides one oral rehydration therapy packet for one child to treat severe dehydration and diarrhea, a leading cause of death among young children.
 Haiti's earthquake has devastated an already struggling people.  Children and families urgently need water, food, medicine, and shelter.  Please give whatever you can.  (UNICEF)

FESTIVAL OF TALENT
The Festival of Talent, a variety show that showcases the remarkable talent of VUSD, is Saturday, February 27th at Ventura High School Auditorium.  Reserved seating tickets may be purchased on-line for $20 at www.vep4vusd.org.  General seating tickets will be on sale in the office next week ($10 pre-sale, $15 at the door).

WAY TO GO!
Congratulations go to 8th grader Sasha Shapiro for being named the Student of the Month by the East Ventura Optimist Club.  Sasha received a plaque and a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble.  The club members were so impressed by Sasha's truly remarkable character that they have decided to donate a generous check to Cabrillo's Haiti Relief Fund.  It was Sasha's idea to start a relief effort here at Cabrillo during a School Site Council meeting.  Way to go, Sasha!  And thank you for making a difference.  (Mrs. Pekar)

STUDENTS PEER TUTORING
The Student Center in Room 41 is now open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning, from 8:25 to 8:55.  If you need a little extra help finishing your homework or just want to get organized, please drop in to see us.  (Mrs. Lantrip, Mr. Walden & Ms. Frias, Cabrillo Counselors)

H1N1 VIRUS
There are still cases of the H1N1 influenza present in our county, so this is another reminder to continue to:
Wash your hands!
Stay home from school if you are ill!
Don't share personal items or food with anyone!
If someone is obviously ill, stay away from them!

The presentation is interactive, entertaining, and unpredictable as Brown faces the topic of bullying head-on. He also speaks to the issue of cyber-bullying, whereby teens use the Internet to inflict pain on their peers. Suggested audience: Grades 6-12.
