CAHSEE TESTING – Tuesday Mar. 16^th and Wednesday Mar. 17^th will be testing for CAHSEE.  There will be NO BARK on these days, and we will be on the following schedule:

VC SUMMER/FALL CLASS REG (9’S & 11’S) – The VC summer and fall schedule of classes will be available online ONLY starting Mar. 17^th.  Please log onto www.venturacollege.edu and click on schedule of classes.  You will need to see your counselor and pick up the Special Admit paperwork in order to register.  The first day for VC summer class registration for current 10^th & 11^th graders is June 9^th.  Current 9^th graders must wait to register for summer classes until June 21^st, and obtain the VC instructor’s signature.  **Starting this year, fall registration will not take place until Aug. 9^th (for grades 11/12) or Aug. 16^th (for grades 11/12).  Please see your counselor for more details.  Lipman

REGISTRATION REMINDER – Priority registration ends today for next year’s Seniors.  So get those forms turned in!!!  Counselors are available in the Guidance Office, Rm. 71 and the Career Center before school, at Break, Lunch and after school to collect your completed registration forms and online class printout.  You may turn your forms in to ANY counselor.  If you need help with registering online, please visit the Career Center or Rm. 71 and a counselor will assist you.  If you need your Zangle Student Connect ID and password, please see Ms. Prado in the Guidance Office. 

VC FALL REG FOR CURRENT SENIORS – Counselors will be visiting all Senior English classrooms on Mar. 29^th to give out VC fall 2010 registration info.  Seniors will be required to complete a mandatory English and Math assessment at VC on their own and a follow-up counseling session at BHS with VC counselors on Apr. 29^th.  More details to follow in your English class Mar. 29^th.  Lipman

ENGLISH HONORS/AP TEST DATE – For those students wanting to test into Honors/AP English for next year, the test date is Mar. 24^th.  The test will be offered after school between 3:00 – 5:00 as follows: Rm. 31 for incoming 10^th, Rm. 22 for incoming 11^th and Rm. 34 for incoming 12^th.  Shedlosky

DRIVERS ED – Next session of Driver’s Ed starts on Monday Mar. 15^th, 0 Period.  You must be 15½, have a 2.0 GPA or better and have minimal tardies and absences.  Sign up in the Guidance Office before or after school, and during Break or Lunch.  Prado

EDISON INTERNSHIP – Current are encouraged to attend the Southern California Edison Internship presentation for next year’s openings on Monday, March 29^th  @ 8:30 AM.  See Mr. Yuncker in the C.C. to sign up.  Laurie Nakagawa, Rockwell Ellis and Valeria Gonzalez are the interns this year and will be at the presentation to give their perspective of this valuable program. Yuncker

RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY SCHOLAR – If you haven’t already applied for this one, the deadline is fast approaching: Mar. 15^th!!!  Applicants must submit two essays, 3 letters of recommendation and a sealed transcript.  This scholarship is worth up to $ 10,000 so come by the CC to pick one up!  Gerry

CA STRAWBERRY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – This program is available for children of strawberry farm workers.  Awards are between $200 and $5,000.  Applications are available online at www.calstrawberry.com and in our CC.  Deadline is Mar. 12^th.  Gerry

HOLLINS UNIVERSITY – (VA) Is offering a summer program for 9^th – 12^th grade girls July 11^th – 23^rd.  Set your own schedules, take two non-credit classes, and participate in field trips and other activities over the weekend.  Students can go to www.hollins.edu and click on “Summer Programs” for full details and to apply online. ASVAB – We will be providing another ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test on Thursday Mar. 18^th in the Cafeteria.  Any Seniors or Juniors interested may sign up with Mr. Yuncker in the CDC.  There is no obligation to the military by taking the test and it is a great assessment of your skill sets and possible careers.  Yuncker

LYNNELLE HANKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship is for students of Buena High who are majoring in Math or Science.  Scholarship amount is $1,000.  Applications are available in the CC, and the deadline is March 24^th.  Gerry

TRIATHLON – Phoenix Three is having its 3^rd annual Triathlon relay for charity.  This event is organized by VHS 10^th grade honors students.  Events are 525 yard swim, 8 mile bike ride and a 3 mile run.  Entry fee is $80 per team, fees due by Friday Mar. 5^th.  The event will take place on Sunday Mar. 1^st and begin at the Ventura Family YMCA.  Please contact Jay Locher at 641-5116 or jay.locher@venturausd.org. 

STATISTICS – Attention Juniors and Sophomores registering for next year:  A new course in Statistics had been added to the options available for you.  It is non-AP and is especially suitable for business majors or anyone else who is looking for a math course but not leaning towards calculus.  See your Counselor, Math teacher or Mrs. Elrod.  Elrod
