Cheers for Children 2017
The Cheers for Children campaign is to help children and families of VUSD. Cheers for Children began in 1952 when a couple of caring teachers and an administrator identified a student and his family in need of food over the holidays. This year we are celebrating our 65th year helping VUSD families in need. Cheers for Children has grown to a community campaign to assist 350 families over the holidays and additional needs throughout the year. We would very much appreciate your support and donations to this one District effort, which is directed at providing good will to our students and families.
In honor of our Wellness Policy and in an effort to serve nutritious food to all students, we have assigned each school site with a food item for donation. Please check in your school office for information of the assigned item for your site. Please encourage students to participate in the spirit of giving by bringing food items specially selected.
Although there is a deadline for receiving the canned goods, there is no due date for collecting monetary donations. The committee will be happy to take donations throughout the winter recess and into the New Year. Checks should be made payable to Cheers for Children and given to your principal or assigned site chairperson. The site chairperson will then send the contributions to my office at the:

FOOD DRIVE DATES: DECEMBER 1-20, 2017
There is a tremendous amount of work that goes on “behind the scenes” to make this event a reality. If you are able to help with sorting, boxing or delivering, there is no need to call. Please bring your friends and family. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. We look forward to seeing you there! Please note the important dates below which are held in Balboa Middle School Cafeteria.
SORTING & BOXING: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
DELIVER FOOD BASKETS: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23, 8:00 a.m.
